The objective of the game is to keep the level of colored blocks down as long as possible. New blocks are falling down at an increasing rate, blocks can be removed by creating rows of three or more blocks of the same color. The longer the row, the more points you get.

A steroid is a simple opengl game project whose purpose is mainly didactic: explaining the basics of interactive 3d programming with opengl. The game has been developed as a six lesson exercise for the Computer Graphics course of the University of Pisa.

The game called A Steroid and available with full documented sources, runs under Windows and Linux, it is developed using glut 3.7 (and therefore it requires requires glutdlls37.zip). Various public library and utility were used to develop the game.

The development of the game has followed various step, that are supposed to present opengl features of increasing complexity (from wireframe to texture mapping). At the end of each step, some exercises of various complexity are presented and solved in the next version/lesson.

Detailed comments on the various aspects of each version, what features are added and how they were implemented, are described in the hmtl documentation. I hope that this can make the sources a viable tool for teaching opengl.

Now only the fifth lesson/version of the game is available online. I'll upload the other ones in the next weeks.

The philosophy of the game is similar to the Atari arcade Asteroids?: shoot down all the asteroids. The game play itself is 2D (you drive the spaceship on a plane), but all the objects (asteroids, ship and so on) of the game are 3D modelled and rendered with opengl. Some add-ons and different classes of asteroid and ships will be added to improve the game longevity.

It's an action-puzzle game. Bricks of various shapes fall from the top and you can move and arrange them to fit nicely on the bottom. When you fill a line without holes it is removed from the heap. It can be played either in a single-player or in a duel-mode with two players playing hotseat on the same computer. There is also a Bastet mode, based on Bastet game by Federico Poloni.
