Core Wars is a game which simulates a virtual machine with a number of programs. Each program tries to crash the others. The program that lasts the longest wins. A number of sample programs are provided and new programs can be written by the player. The game website also offers combat between user submitted programs in a virtual tournament.

This game is super simple, but that's why it's super awesome! It's a regular pong game, where two players face off using the controls from the same keyboard.

Player 1: uses A and Z to move up and down.
Player 2: uses UP ARROW and DOWN ARROW to move up and down.

__Where__ you hit the ball on the paddle determines the speed of the ball and direction.
There are no special moves.

This game is in dire need of a godly programmer to beef it up if you have the desire for a more advanced pong game.

I wrote Cosmic Assault as my little homage to my coming of age in the early 1980s. It started life as one of the tutorials supplied for teaching programmers the fundamentals of pygame and I used that tutorial to hack together a little shoot-em-up game to see how all the components worked together.

One thing led to another, and the program was built on many layers of "Wouldn't it be neat if...", "I wonder what this does..." or "How do I do this..." As a result, this game is no paean to modern software engineering practices. Even though it uses classes, inheritance, and aggregation, the OO misfeatures are so numerous that it is guaranteed to make enterprise Java developers openly weep in their Gang of Four books.

But, in spite of all that (or likely because of it), this game is addictive, mindless fun. Your job is to fly your spacecraft into the unknown and mow down hordes of ruthless enemies in a noble effort to... Oh hell, quit listening to me babble, look at the screenshots, and download and play this bad boy already.

Craft is a strategy/war game similar to Warcraft and Dune II. Each player starts off with two workers and a knight, and tries to build a kingdom with which he can kill off all the other players. The workers can build buildings such as mills (which make archers), docks (for ships), and markets (to trade gold and lumber). The game takes a little while to figure out, but it's worth it.
