The Crate Game Engine is a library designed for creating multiplayer adventure style games. Currently, the engine is capable of loading and playing a console based game from an XML file describing the game world. Scripting support is coming next, followed by graphical support. The game genre that the engine supports is most accurately described as adventure game - board game hybrid. Anyone familiar with Jones in the Fast Lane by Sierra will have an idea as to where the engine is headed.
